Kerstner CoolJet: which refrigeration unit fits?

Kerstner CoolJet is the product range of refrigeration units for the van segment. The electric models C103 EA, C106 EA, C203 EA, C203 EAT, and C206 EA, as well as the belt-driven models C206RA and C206RC, serve different purposes. The choice depends on load volume, temperature range, stop rate, vehicle base, and power supply. Importantly, the refrigeration unit is always considered together with the interior insulation and the vehicle.

Which Kerstner CoolJet is intended for which task?

The following overview is a guide, not a replacement for a project assessment. Particularly with electric vehicles, frozen transport or special equipment, the base vehicle, payload and installation conditions must be checked thoroughly.

Range Technology Typical application Important note
CoolJet C103 EA Electric, 12 V Chilled transport Roof-mounted
CoolJet C106 EA Electric, 12 V Chilled transport Underfloor mounting
CoolJet C203 EA Electric, 12 V Chilled transport Roof-mounted
CoolJet C203 EAT Electric, 12 V Chilled transport Roof-mounted
CoolJet C206 EA Electric, 12 V Chilled transport Underfloor mounting
CoolJet C206RA Belt drive Chilled transport Roof-mounted
CoolJet C206RC Belt drive Frozen transport Roof-mounted

Verifiable performance data and tests are important for ATP-related applications. An overview of international requirements is provided by the UNECE ATP page. Kerstner brings together its own documentation at Certifications.

When does electric refrigeration make sense?

Electric refrigeration makes sense when chilled goods, quiet operation and neat integration are priorities. This applies to many urban and store delivery routes.

The distinction remains important: electric refrigeration describes the refrigeration unit. It does not in itself say whether the vehicle is battery-electric.

When does belt drive make sense?

Among the belt-driven models, the CoolJet C206RA is designed for fresh delivery, and the CoolJet C206RC for deep-freeze transport. In contrast, the electric CoolJet C206 EA is an underfloor refrigeration unit for fresh delivery.

Suitability depends on the base vehicle, installation, temperature range and application. That is why the refrigeration unit overview is deliberately structured as a product range, not a simple price list.

What makes the CoolJet C106 EA special?

The CoolJet C106 EA is an underfloor solution. This can be advantageous if no additional roof-mounted height is desired. However, the technology must be suitable for the vehicle base.

Especially with electric vehicles, installation space, power supply and supporting documentation are decisive. We therefore refer to compatible vehicle projects, not universal suitability.

FAQ

Which CoolJet suits a Sprinter?

That depends on load space, temperature range and application. Chilled goods may call for a different solution from frozen goods or frequent door openings.

Are CoolJet C203 EA and C203 EAT intended for deep-freeze?

The electric roof-mounted CoolJet C203 EA and C203 EAT are intended for fresh delivery. For deep-freeze transport, among others, the belt-driven CoolJet C206RC is being evaluated.

Is electric refrigeration the same as BEV drive?

No. Electric refrigeration describes the refrigeration unit. BEV drive describes vehicle propulsion.

Can any CoolJet be combined with any vehicle?

No. The base vehicle, installation space, payload, temperature range and supporting documentation must be checked within the project.
