Kerstner CoolJet is the range of refrigeration units for vans. CoolJet 103, 203, 206 and e-CoolJet 106 serve different purposes. Selection depends on load volume, temperature range, stop frequency, base vehicle and power supply. The refrigeration unit is always assessed together with the interior insulation and vehicle.
Which Kerstner CoolJet is intended for which task?
The following overview is a guide, not a replacement for a project assessment. Particularly with electric vehicles, frozen transport or special equipment, the base vehicle, payload and installation conditions must be checked thoroughly.
| Range | Technology | Typical application | Important note |
|---|---|---|---|
| CoolJet 103 | electric refrigeration | compact chilled delivery vehicles | for smaller load spaces |
| CoolJet 203 | electric refrigeration | larger chilled delivery rounds | up to approx. 10 m³ as a guide |
| CoolJet 206 | Belt drive | Chilled and frozen goods | when spare capacity matters |
| e-CoolJet 106 | Underfloor solution | compatible vehicle projects | assess for each project |
Verifiable performance data and tests are important for ATP-related applications. An overview of international requirements is provided by the UNECE ATP page. Kerstner brings together its own documentation at Certifications.
When does electric refrigeration make sense?
Electric refrigeration makes sense when chilled goods, quiet operation and neat integration are priorities. This applies to many urban and store delivery routes.
The distinction remains important: electric refrigeration describes the refrigeration unit. It does not in itself say whether the vehicle is battery-electric.
When does belt drive make sense?
Belt drive becomes attractive when spare capacity, frozen transport or frequent door openings are priorities. CoolJet 206 is therefore more suited to demanding applications.
Suitability depends on the base vehicle, installation, temperature range and application. That is why the refrigeration unit overview is deliberately structured as a product range, not a simple price list.
What makes the e-CoolJet 106 special?
The e-CoolJet 106 is an underfloor solution. This can help when additional roof height is undesirable. However, the technology must suit the base vehicle.
Especially with electric vehicles, installation space, power supply and supporting documentation are decisive. We therefore refer to compatible vehicle projects, not universal suitability.
What does this mean for you?
- You can clearly separate refrigeration technology from vehicle propulsion.
- You avoid blanket statements such as “electric always fits”.
- You gain a better basis for quotations and tenders.
- You know when to assess chilled goods, frozen goods or underfloor technology.
- You link internally directly to Vehicles, Refrigeration units and Contact.
FAQ
Which CoolJet suits a Sprinter?
That depends on load space, temperature range and application. Chilled goods may call for a different solution from frozen goods or frequent door openings.
Is CoolJet 203 intended for frozen goods?
CoolJet 203 is primarily classified for larger chilled delivery rounds. CoolJet 206 is assessed for frozen goods or high spare capacity.
Is electric refrigeration the same as BEV drive?
No. Electric refrigeration describes the refrigeration unit. BEV drive describes vehicle propulsion.
Can any CoolJet be combined with any vehicle?
No. The base vehicle, installation space, payload, temperature range and supporting documentation must be checked within the project.
